RIYADH – European foreign ministers are set to gather at the end of January to deliberate on the potential easing of sanctions on Syria, announced EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on Sunday during a diplomatic meeting in Riyadh.
The announcement came ahead of a summit involving key Middle Eastern and Western diplomats, including Syria's newly appointed foreign minister. Kallas confirmed that the ministers would meet in Brussels on January 27 to discuss how the 27-member European Union might modify or relax existing sanctions on Syria, signaling a potential shift in the bloc's approach toward the conflict-affected nation. The decision could have significant political and humanitarian implications.
